Avocado's... Did You Know?

Avocado's provide the body with fat. Now when you hear the term "fat", you're first thought most likely isn't positive. Most people think of foods with fat as bad and unhealthy, but in fact there's such thing as "healthy fats". Healthy fats are unsaturated fats. Unhealthy fats are saturated and Trans fats.


Fats, or lipids, are the third major micronutrients. The two others being carbohydrates and proteins. Fats are necessary for many reasons: They store and supply the body with fat soluble vitamins. They are a source of fatty acids help maintain the function and integrity of the outer wall of our cells.


While it is true that some fats are bad and can lead to obesity and some diseases. There are in fact certain fats that are important to maintain good health.

 

Foods with healthy (unsaturated) fats:

Avocado's

Fish

Oils (Olive and coconut)

Nuts (Peanut Butter, almonds, walnuts)

Seeds (Sunflower, etc.)


Foods with bad (saturated) fats:

Butter

Canola Oil/Vegetable oil

Fast food

Fatty meats
